Bring us up to date on your life after the peace corps:
Took a post as writer/editor/reporter - 32-page tabloid covering the age
beat in Caton Rouge, Louisiana
The newspaper was put out by the East Baton Rouge Council on the Aging,
non-profit organization, for persons 60 and more. I created the
publication, selected its material and grafics, wrote, edited and took
photographs. organized layout.
Talked throught the community to organizations of older persons and to
organizations serving the mature adult. Did PR and press releases about
the agency and its services. Circulation rose from about 10,000 to 18,751
persons receiving The Platinum Record by mail in less than 5 five years.
I retired from this job, which I took in 1003 last week on Jan. 25, 2002
I have for about five years taught sessions, classes in importance of
writing memoirs. It is a continuing sessions each Saturday moorning from
9 until noon and has proved of considerable help to older persons and of
more than expected interest to me as a writer to non-writer, learn to write
well. The Lifewriters perform or give readings at least twice a year and are
heard on the radio, in the Council's publication and at various social
gatherings.
I look forward to compling a book of some of their writings.
Any thoughts you have now looking back on peace corps days?:
the united nations development program utilizing volunteers was well run;
perhaps more than 24-briefing would have helped, but it wasn't missed
greatly. I feel that the older audience is recognized as a worthy audience
to develop as good workers throughout the world.
I have not been informed of an organization which is made up of former
undp staff such as rpcv.
