Gaddi Vasquez honored with VIP Award at Orange County scholarship fundraiser

Hispanic fund honors EDUCATORS
"I'm really honored. I love my job and enjoy going to work each day," said Excellence in Teaching award winner Jaimeson Sonne from Saddleback High School in Santa Ana at the ninth annual Hispanic Education Endowment Fund "Apple of Gold" awards dinner Friday night. Held at the Anaheim Hilton, the "Creating Connections" event drew 700 guests to honor outstanding educators of Hispanic youth.
Other award winners included Most Promising K-12 Educator, Martha Herrera, from Centralia School in Buena Park; Community College Counseling, Rolando Sanabria, from Fullerton College; Educational Service, Hortensia Modregon, from Cypress College; and Educational Leadership, Consuelo Valencia Scheid, from Anaheim City School District.
A special VIP Award was given former Orange County Supervisor Gaddi Vasquez, who is currently U.S. Peace Corps director.
Among those making it happen were Cathy Paredes and Bert Salazar, dinner co-chairs; Olga and Fernando Niebla and Socorro and Ernesto Vasquez, HEEF honorary co-chairs; and Maria Chavez Wilcox and Orange County Sheriff Mike Carona, honorary dinner co-chairs who presented a $50,000 challenge grant to HEEF from the Mike Carona Foundation.
HEEF, founded in 1993, has awarded 435 scholarships worth $1.6 million. '
