Dane Smith Resigns as President of NPCA

A reliable source has informed us that Dane Smith has tendered his resignation as President of the National Peace Corps Association. The letter was presented to the Board of Directors of the NPCA this afternoon, January 8.

He mentioned in his letter that he is leaving after serving as President of the NPCA for 3 - 1/2 years and said that it is time to move on. He talked about the NPCA's accomplishments under his administration that included improving advocacy and visiting eighty of the NPCA's affiliates during his tenure. But he added that the job had become all consuming and that it was time for him to retire and time to bring new blood into the organization.

He said that he will be leaving before the August Meeting of the NPCA President's Forum in Portland, OR and hoped and expected that a replacement could be found before then. He said that he would stay on until a replacement had been found but hoped that a replacement could be found closer to February than to August.

He said that after a full career in the diplomatic corps he had found that the job of President of the NPCA was all consuming and that he had even less time to spend with his family than when he was in the diplomatic corps.

He said the Search Committee for his successor would be led by NPCA Board member Carrie Radelet.
