An RPCV remembers John Dellenback

In regards to John Dellenback I would like to share a story. After leaving PC due to medical problems in 1972, The PC doc in Washington DC chewed me out for being crazy for ever signing up. I should have but did not ask him why they gave their Ok for me to join in the first place.... While signing out I was told that there was a possibility I might need further help and that there were programs for this.. Well 10 months later I was still having difficulties and applied for temporary compensation... After hearing nothing for months I wrote Rep. John Dellenback. In a few days I got a letter saying he was on my case and would let me know what he found out... In a short time I got a telegram from his office saying that a check was in the mail. Rep. Dellenback forwarded on to me a letter from the federal agency in charge that went as follows "Mr. Skyrman's file was lost and we appreciate you bringing it to our attention." Yea, you bet..... In subsequent communications I had to use John's help in getting a response.

When the Carter administration came in I wrote a letter to Miss Lillian telling her how John Dellenback had helped me and how well I thought he fit in at the Peace Corps. I was hoping she would get Jimmy's ear but I never got a reply.

About 10 years ago I was waiting for a plane to Medford in United's San Francisco's waiting area. The place was pretty empty but I noticed one fellow that looked familiar. After 5 minutes went by I got up and walked over and asked if he was John Dellenback. Yes, he said, and we went on to visit for 10 minutes. I thanked him for his efforts years ago and he replied that was one area of being a Representative that brought satisfaction. He went on to tell that he on the last leg of a trip from Eastern Europe dealing with an orphanage. He said 13 hours in the air was too much in one day..
