I was recently nominated for service in Latin America for June of 2007. Although I am excited about the nomination I was a little disappointed b/c the departure date is a year away. When I asked my recuiter if there were any other assignments leaving earlier then that, in any region, in any area, she said no and was kinda rude about my asking so I decided not to mention that I really also had wanted a placement in Africa. Anyways, she said that there was always the slight posibility that something sooner would open up but she didn't sound to optimistic. So I was wondering if anyone knew how likely it would be for me to end up getting invited to a different region or an earlier departure date???? Has anyone had an experience like that? or are the nominations pretty much always what you get?

While there are placements at different times of the year, summer is the most common. So, if the application was processed just recently, perhaps there simply weren't any openings at present.

I processed my application within a few months and in order to get a placement quickly I was very flexible on the location ... The more qualifyers you include (country/region, job specifics, etc.), the longer the process can take. So, you need to prioritize what's most important: timing, country/region or the specific job function.

In any case, the recruiter should not be rude nor surprised that an applicant wants or needs a placement sooner than 12 months out (on top of whatever time has passed in the application process). One component of a recruiter's performance evaluation is percent placement of candidates and filling country requests ...

PC has been improving the application process ... and they're supposed to be doing better than 12 months from initial application to start of service.
