Aug. 25--WILBERFORCE, Ohio -- Central State University has named a former university trustee and former bank executive, Mervyn L. Alphonso, vice president for administration and chief financial officer.

CSU President John W. Garland said Tuesday that Adolphus Andrews, the university's executive vice president since 1997, will retire Sept. 1.

Andrews played a pivotal role in rebuilding the university's financial health after a fiscal and political crisis in the mid- 1990s.

Alphonso, who has more than 30 years of banking experience, retired in July 2000 as president and chairman of KeyBank National Association, Dayton District. A native of Guyana, Alphonso joined the Peace Corps in 2001 and served as a guidance counselor and teacher in his native South American country.

He returned to the United States in August 2003. From June 24 to July 31, he served as interim executive director of the Dayton Boys and Girls Club.
