J. Evan Hendrix of Fayetteville was recently appointed development officer of the Arkansas Sheriffs’ Youth Ranch for Northwest Arkansas.

Hendrix is a Fort Smith native with a bachelor’s degree in environmental science from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. While in college, he worked as a fund-raiser with the University of Arkansas Annual Fund. After graduating, he accepted an appointment to serve in the Philippines as a Peace Corps volunteer, and he lived and worked there for three years while raising funds and initiating various community development projects. He was most recently a supervisor for Tyson Foods. "Evan brings a great attitude, lots of enthusiasm and a great reputation to this position," said Michael Cumnock, CEO of the Arkansas Sheriffs’ Youth Ranch. "He will be a great asset to our team and the Ranch family."

The primary responsibility of the development officer for Northwest Arkansas is to secure private gift support, to foster existing and build new relationships with corporations, churches and civic groups, as well as individuals from the area. Hendrix will also implement the Arkansas Sheriffs’ Youth Ranch fund-raising priorities for the new 265-acre Donald W. Reynolds Youth Ranch located in Crawford County near Alma, according to Dr. Fred Hueston, chief development officer of the Ranch. "I am extremely pleased that Evan will be joining the development staff," Hueston said. "He brings a wide range of community development skills and experience working for a successful corporation to the Youth Ranch.

Hueston went on to say that the mission of the Arkansas Sheriffs’ Youth Ranches is to establish and provide safe, permanent homes for Arkansas ’ abused and neglected children.

" This can only be accomplished by attracting and maintaining significant levels of private gift support. Our success and growth is attributed to the generosity of corporations, church and civic groups and individual donors, "he said." A bout 95 percent of our income is derived from private contributions. Evan brings the support we need to further the fine efforts of the development staff. "

Hendrix said his experiences have helped prepare him for his new position.

" I have had some wonderful experiences overseas working with extraordinary people in a developing country, "Hendrix said." I feel truly excited to be directly involved in assisting the efforts of an ever-expanding organization like the Arkansas Sheriffs’ Youth Ranch with the important goal of leaving no child behind. "

Hendrix is the son of Dan Hendrix, director of corporate and foundation relations at the University of Arkansas.
