Peace Corps volunteer Meghan Driscoll, 25, headed back to a rural village in Uzbekistan last Friday after spending about two weeks at home in Beverly trying to raise money to renovate a health clinic in the central Asian nation.

A 1998 graduate of Beverly High School, Driscoll enlisted in the Peace Corps after earning a degree in French and political science from Union College. She recently wrote a grant proposal to raise $5,700 to improve electricity and heat, install running water, and make other improvements at the health clinic where she works.

The renovations would make the clinic eligible for World Bank assistance, said her mother, Ann Driscoll , adding that a meeting of about 60 people at the family's Beverly home last week raised additional funds for the project.
