[Excerpt]
Anyway, time now for tonight‘s "Big Number." And, boy, is it depressing. A new survey in Oklahoma among high school students gave basic questions on civics to the kids. We‘re talking real basic, like name the first president of the United States.
So, how many students correctly answered George Washington? You will not believe this. Twenty-three percent. High school kids. Less than one in four. It would be funny if it weren‘t true. Just 23 percent of Oklahoma high schoolers could name George Washington as the first president. Maybe they should have asked the kids whose face is on the dollar bill.
