The grant will fund a project to bring balls, building blocks, toys, art supplies, paper, and other materials to a preschool that has no basic learning materials. Norrell is sponsoring this project in partnership with a community leader working on behalf of children. The project will encourage hands on education, allow them to use their imaginations, and foster healthy development. Norrell, 59, and her husband, Clinton, 61, joined the Peace Corps in July 2009. Retired in 2006, the couple agreed to a 27-month stint with the Peace Corps. She is a former first and second grade teacher for the Placer Hills School District.

Former Colfax resident Kathy Norrell, who is currently serving with the Peace Corps in Belize, has received a grant from Kids to Kids to support her work with preschool children.

Money for Kids to Kids grants is raised by kids throughout the U.S., who want to make a difference in the lives of less fortunate kids around the world.
Kids to Kids was founded in 2005 by four youth from Massachusetts who realized they could make a difference in the lives of kids worldwide through arts, sports education and environmental projects.
Kids to Kids provides kids in the US with a way to help kids in under-resourced communities to lead healthier lives, protect the environment, and achieve their athletic, artistic, and educational aspirations.

| Support Independent Funding for the Third Goal The Peace Corps has always neglected the third goal, allocating less than 1% of their resources to "bringing the world back home." Senator Dodd addressed this issue in the "Peace Corps for the 21st Century" bill passed by the US Senate and Peace Corps Director Ron Tschetter proposed a "Peace Corps Foundation" at no cost to the US government. Both are good approaches but the recent "Comprehensive Assessment Report" didn't address the issue of independent funding for the third goal at all. |
