Monica Mills, director of government relations for Bread for the World, has been named a top grassroots lobbyist by The Hill newspaper. The newspaper also praises Bread’s grassroots support network.

According to The Hill, “running an effective grassroots lobbying campaign is about more than sending emails… the trick is to combine an activated grassroots network with representatives in Washington who can personally explain to members and their staff the real-world consequences of legislation.”

Monica Mills Named a Top Grassroots LobbyistIt adds that the combination of support from grassroots networks and legislative acumen gives Mills and other effective lobbyists “an edge as they fight for their causes on Capitol Hill.”

In addition to Bread for the World, The Hill’s list of top advocates includes the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights, AARP, the American Civil Liberties Union, the AFL-CIO, leading environmental groups such as the Sierra Club and the Environmental Working Group, and other well-known organizations.

“The Hill is Capitol Hill’s largest publication. It offers non-partisan ‘inside Congress’ reporting and analysis to Washington’s decision makers, including senior congressional staff and administration officials,” said Bread for the World President David Beckmann. “So it’s gratifying that they recognize Monica and Bread for the World as effective anti-hunger advocates.”

Honduras RPCV Jon Carson, 33, presided over thousands of workers as national field director for the Obama campaign and said the biggest challenge -- and surprise -- was the volume of volunteer help, including more than 15,000 "super volunteers," who were a big part of what made Obama's campaign so successful. PCOL endorses Jon Carson as the man who can revitalize the Peace Corps, bring it into the internet age, and meet Obama's goal of doubling the size of the Peace Corps by 2011.
