Country of Service: Liberia
Training Group: There was training?
Cities you served in: Greenville
Arrival Year: 1985
Departure Year: 1987
Work Description: Primary Health Care Training & Supervision; Community Mobilization
Bring us up to date on your life after the peace corps:
After I returned to the States and got my Masters in Public Health in 1989, I went back to work in Africa as a health educator. I worked and lived in Ghana, Egypt, Gambia, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, and few other places. My specialty was family planning and prevention of AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases.
After Africa, I moved to Bangladesh, where I spent another three years there working in both agricultural development and AIDS prevention. I also worked and travelled in Cambodia, Thailand, India, and Nepal.
I moved back to the United States about five years ago, and have been working in social marketing and online health education programs. Outside of work, I study martial arts, and volunteer as a Web designer for nonprofit organizations. I have been a husband for 13 years, a father for 12 years, and an adoptive parent to a 5 year-old girl from China for year.
Still remember the words to "On the Edge of Liberia", and have a few photos from training, if anyone wants to share.
Anyone you are looking for or would like to hear from?:

Jim and Lyn Gray (Group 37/Liberia 1972-1976) extend our greetings to all old friends and any new one who may appear. Lyn and I are working in Liberia--Lyn at the YMCA and I am teaching at Cuttington. We have been here on a full-time basis since March 2004, although both of us did some work here just after President Taylor left in August 2003. We'd love to hear from people, and we are willing to answer questions about how things are now.

I was a volunteer in Zaitown, a small village in Grand Gedeh County, in the fall of 1967 for 3 months, temporarily subbing for another volunteer teacher who had malaria. After that I was assigned to teach high school in Saniquellie, in Nimba County. I also taught summer school in Greenville; plus flew to East Africa with many Liberian volunteers for an extensive visit to Ethiopia, Tanzania and Kenya.
Rodger Wetzel, RPCV, 1967-69 (Group 10; some of us originally trained for Western Cameroon, but due to the conflict in bordering eastern Nigeria/Biafra, we were reassigned to Liberia.)
