Two extension agents now professors
Two local county extension agents whose careers have followed similar paths are now full professors with Oregon State University.
Sandy Macnab, Sherman County extension agent, and Brian Tuck, Wasco County extension agent, received word of the promotions last week.
The announcement culminates a 15-month process of dossier writing, followed by extensive review by university faculty. The reviews also involved evaluations by local clients, peers, industry leaders and others.
OSU interim provost Sabah Randhawa announced the promotions.
In 1994, Tuck left for special assignment to the Peace Corps, serving in the former Soviet state of Armenia as director of business and agri-business education. He returned to Oregon in 1998 and the Clackamas County Extension Office where he developed a small farm program spanning four metro counties and two states, with a clientele list over 5,000. With the restoration of state Extension funds in 1999, Tuck was selected for the Wasco County crops position, assuming the duties Macnab vacated after transferring back to Sherman.
Tuck’s previous promotion to associate professor came in 1989. Among his many honors, he has earned the Epsilon Sigma Phi International Service Award and the Jim Klahre Award for Excellence in Youth Education.
He has three masters degrees, in agriculture, business administration and public administration.
In addition to his responsibilities in farm crops and the regional small farm program, Tuck also shares staff administrative duties with other Wasco County faculty.
Tuck and Macnab are both active in many volunteer activities and committees in their respective communities.
Their promotions become effective July 1. A formal reception honoring OSU faculty achieving promotions will be held in Corvallis on June 13. Click on a link below for more stories on PCOL
