Philadelphia - A forum discussing the presidential campaign was held Friday morning in a sparsely attended auditorium at Kensington High School, even though it featured two political heavyweights on the Democratic side. Terry McAuliffe, National Chairman of the Hillary Clinton campaign, vied against Sen. Barack Obama's (D-Illinois) regional representative, former Pennsylvania U.S. Senator Harris Wofford (D-Pennsylvania). Both men squared off against the lone Republican, Wally Zimolong, state representative candidate in Philadelphia's 182nd District.
[Excerpt]
Wofford spoke extensively about his background working for civil rights, recalling his time with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., President Kennedy and Robert Kennedy. He stated that the majority of the world was "colored and poor", and while both Clinton and Obama would make effective leaders, he was partial to Obama due to his ability to "unite" the country and "bring people together."
The school's large auditorium was a fraction full, at best, with the candidates' spokespeople seeming to strain for a response from their impassive listeners.
"Remember two things," Mr. Wofford said. "You must judge which candidate has the best judgment. It's who you think will be the best president."

| Dodd vows to filibuster Surveillance Act Senator Chris Dodd vowed to filibuster the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act that would grant retroactive immunity to telecommunications companies that helped this administration violate the civil liberties of Americans. "It is time to say: No more. No more trampling on our Constitution. No more excusing those who violate the rule of law. These are fundamental, basic, eternal principles. They have been around, some of them, for as long as the Magna Carta. They are enduring. What they are not is temporary. And what we do not do in a time where our country is at risk is abandon them." |
