FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

New Memoir Compares Vietnam War to Conflict in Iraq

The Tragedy of Vietnam, Again by Christopher Noble seeks to identify mistakes and deceptions that sent two generations of Americans to war

MARION, Mass. -- December 2, 2008 -- The Tragedy of Vietnam, Again, a new book by Vietnam War veteran Christopher Noble, tells the story of a medical platoon in the plains of southern Vietnam in 1968. Written as a memoir, the book also aims to expose similarities between the Vietnam War and the current conflict in Iraq.

Throughout the memoir, Noble draws controversial conclusions about the causes and far-reaching effects of the Vietnam and Iraq wars. “The tragedy for Vietnam veterans is the same for the Iraq veterans,” Noble claims. “We both went off to war as naïve and patriotic youth, going to defend our country, when our government has not told the truth to the American public.”

Noble looked to his own service during the Vietnam War to craft the memoir. The book is filled with first-person accounts of combat, field medicine and glimpses into the everyday life of young Americans struggling to survive in Southeast Asia.

Designed to inform readers about the history of the Vietnam War and raise hard questions about American policy and leadership, The Tragedy of Vietnam, Again seeks to act as a warning against repeating mistakes of the past.

Honduras RPCV Jon Carson, 33, presided over thousands of workers as national field director for the Obama campaign and said the biggest challenge -- and surprise -- was the volume of volunteer help, including more than 15,000 "super volunteers," who were a big part of what made Obama's campaign so successful. PCOL endorses Jon Carson as the man who can revitalize the Peace Corps, bring it into the internet age, and meet Obama's goal of doubling the size of the Peace Corps by 2011.

Some PCVs return to Bolivia on their own Date: October 23 2008 No: 1279 Some PCVs return to Bolivia on their own
Peace Corps has withdrawn all volunteers from Bolivia because of "growing instability" and the expulsion of US Ambassador Philip Goldberg after Bolivian President Evo Morales accused the American government of inciting violence in the country. This is not the first controversy surrounding Goldberg's tenure as US ambassador to Bolivia. Latest: Some volunteers have returned to Bolivia on their own to complete their projects.

Read the analysis by one RPCV on how Georgia's President Mikheil Saakashvili believed that he could launch a lightning assault on South Ossetia and reclaim the republic without substantial grief from Moscow and that Saakashvili's statements once the war began demonstrated that he expected real Western help in confronting Russia.
