Luther College President Richard Torgerson has named Dan Bellrichard to the position of Luther sustainability coordinator.
Bellrichard will begin his duties at Luther in August.
A graduate of Luther College, Bellrichard served with the Peace Corps in Mali, West Africa, where he led the development and implementation of a village savings bank, including the recruitment of bank staff and their training in accounting practices, marketing strategies and business roles and operations. He has also served with VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America).
Most recently, Bellrichard has served as director of operations for Blue Brain Consulting, a Decorah-based form that manages Internet marketing campaigns for 15 companies. His career also includes service with Helping Services of Northeast Iowa as a prevention specialist, coordinating the Allamakee County Mentoring Program and also facilitating model prevention programs in middle schools throughout the agency's four-county area.
In 2006-07, Bellrichard was a communications specialist with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Madison, where he was responsible for implementing the DNR's program titled "Internet Tools for Planning, Conservation and Environmental Protection," which included information sessions and training workshops for natural resource professionals.
As coordinator of Luther College's diverse sustainability programs and initiatives, Bellrichard will assist the college in achieving its sustainability goals and reducing the environmental impact of the institution by engaging students, faculty and staff in sustainability initiatives related to campus operations, student life and teaching and research.
In addition to supervising student work-study sustainability employees and serving as a liason between campus and community sustainability groups, Bellrichard will also design and implement strategies to achieve reductions in solid waste disposal, campus energy usage and recycling.
Bellrichard is a native of Austin, Minn. He succeeds Caleb Mattison who served from 2007 to 2009 as Luther sustainability coordinator.
