Peace Corps service ending for city woman

A 39-year-old Michigan City woman is completing her service with the Peace Corps and will return home within the next few months.
For more than two years, Martha Sanders has been serving in Santa Barbara and Guanacaste, Costa Rica, as a community economic development Peace Corps volunteer. Her work involved teaching English as a foreign language to children and adults.
Sanders said her host town is rural, but many resources were accessible in neighboring towns about 10 kilometers away.
After readjusting to life back in the United States, Sanders plans to attend graduate school, then become a high school teacher.
Sanders graduated from the Purdue University, West Lafayette, Ind., earning a bachelor's degree in history and political science in 2004. She also worked on a master's degree in history from Purdue University and hopes to finish in 2010.
Sanders said being in the Peace wCorps means she can share her experiences with others. It also has helped her realize what she wants to do with the next phase of her life.
Sanders is one of the 162 Indiana residents now serving in the Peace Corps. More than 2,846 Indiana residents have served in the Peace Corps since 1961.
