Doyle 'stumps' for local candidates

By Barbara Lyon, News Editor

With the attitude that "if you think it, you can create it," the Dunn County Democratic Party held a "victory rally" under brilliantly sunny skies at the Pioneer Grill and Saloon.

[Excerpt]

The governor had strong criticism for Republicans, stating, "Lest anybody say, as we watched the last presidential debate, that we're the big spenders -- don't ever forget what happened in Wisconsin. It was under their rule that they dug us into a $3.2 billion deficit. And we, as Democrats, have been able to show that we can come out of that deficit, honestly balance the budget, do it without raising taxes, and do it while focusing on what's most important to us, education, health care and job creation."

Doyle predicted that the state will see its highest voter turnout in history.

"Wisconsin is coming down to being ground zero," he said. "More and more people are saying there are really three states that count right now -- Florida, Ohio and Wisconsin. We're at the very center of what's going on. It could be decided by a few thousand votes and it's going to be decided by the team that wants is more."

Governor Schwarzenegger praised the Peace Corps at the Republican National Convention: "We're the America that sends out Peace Corps volunteers to teach village children." Schwarzenegger has previously acknowledged his debt to his father-in-law, Peace Corps Founding Director Sargent Shriver, for teaching him "the joy of public service" and Arnold is encouraging volunteerism by creating California Service Corps and tapping his wife, Maria Shriver, to lead it.
