Steven Ehrlich learned early on the significance of how architecture responds to the culture and the environment. A self proclaimed "architectural anthropologist "; upon graduating from Rensslaer Polytechnic Institute in 1969 Ehrlich spent six years living and working in Africa serving as the first Architect with the Peace Corps in Marrakech, Morocco. He later traveled across the Sahara and taught at Ahmadu Bello University in Nigeria. The lessons of indigenous architecture have formed Ehrlich's approach to architectural design and continue to influence the work today. Los Angeles, with its multi-cultural diversity, kinetic energy, and open minded nature have proven fertile ground for the firm's modern work.
Ehrlich's growing reputation for infusing cultural overtones with technologically advanced solutions is winning showcase projects. Current projects include the future 55,000 SF Art Center for Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, CA, the Biblioteca Latinoamericana in San Jose, CA and the 320,000 SF DreamWorks SKG Animation Studios in Glendale, CA.
His Culver City, California based firm has been widely published and has won numerous design awards including three National AIA Awards in 1997. (The last time a single firm won three National AIA Awards in one year was in 1974 by I.M. Pei) A new Rizzoli monograph on the work of Steven Ehrlich Architects was recently released

| Schwarzenegger praises PC at Convention Governor Schwarzenegger praised the Peace Corps at the Republican National Convention: "We're the America that sends out Peace Corps volunteers to teach village children." Schwarzenegger has previously acknowledged his debt to his father-in-law, Peace Corps Founding Director Sargent Shriver, for teaching him "the joy of public service" and Arnold is encouraging volunteerism by creating California Service Corps and tapping his wife, Maria Shriver, to lead it.
