WASHINGTON (AP) _ Sen. Christopher Dodd will break away from his own re-election race Friday to spend the entire day campaigning for Democrat John Kerry in the battleground state of Pennsylvania.

Dodd, D-Conn., has a full day of events along the eastern stretch of the state _ from radio interviews to forums and a diner stop. The visit comes just three days before his second and final debate with Republican Jack Orchulli, who is challenging Dodd for his Senate seat. Dodd is seeking a record fifth term.

This is Dodd's first extended campaign stop for Kerry. He'll start the day in York at a health care forum with senior citizens, then head to Lancaster to talk to diner patrons, then to Wyomissing for a jobs forum with union members and finally to a town hall meeting in Wilkes-Barre.

Recent polls show Kerry has the edge in Pennsylvania, which Bush narrowly lost in 2000 to Al Gore. But the battle goes on for critical votes in the suburbs and both campaigns are flooding the state with volunteers and advertising.

Dodd, who was in New Hampshire early this year to stump for Sen. Joe Lieberman's presidential bid, also plans to return to the Granite state to campaign for Kerry before the election.

Schwarzenegger praises PC at Convention Schwarzenegger praises PC at Convention
Governor Schwarzenegger praised the Peace Corps at the Republican National Convention: "We're the America that sends out Peace Corps volunteers to teach village children." Schwarzenegger has previously acknowledged his debt to his father-in-law, Peace Corps Founding Director Sargent Shriver, for teaching him "the joy of public service" and Arnold is encouraging volunteerism by creating California Service Corps and tapping his wife, Maria Shriver, to lead it.
