Standing among them was Thaleia Tsongas, the twin sister of the late Sen. Paul Tsongas, D-Mass., who campaigned for president here in 1992 before he died of cancer. "He's the first person since my brother that I've felt this passionate about," she said of Obama. "He's an extraordinary politician, in the best sense of what that means." [Excerpt]
On the Democratic side, Illinois Sen. Barack Obama held well-attended campaign events Monday as several polls showed he had opened a double-digit lead over New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton after last week's decisive win in the Iowa caucuses.
"You're the wave, and I'm riding it," Obama told several hundred voters who cheered him in 40-degree weather. They had been turned away from his indoor rally, which was filled to capacity.

They have been around, some of them, for as long as the Magna Carta. They are enduring. What they are not is temporary. And what we do not do in a time where our country is at risk is abandon them." |
| What is the greatest threat facing us now? "People will say it's terrorism. But are there any terrorists in the world who can change the American way of life or our political system? No. Can they knock down a building? Yes. Can they kill somebody? Yes. But can they change us? No. Only we can change ourselves. So what is the great threat we are facing? I would approach this differently, in almost Marshall-like terms. What are the great opportunities out there - ones that we can take advantage of?" Read more. |
