Maureen Orth had a premonition
People magazine, in its issue out today, reported comments from Tim's widow, journalist Maureen Orth, who had some kind of premonition of her husband's death last week when he left a family vacation in Italy early to head back and prepare for his weekly telecast. "I said to him, `I want to give you a hug; maybe I'll never see you again,"' she said. "I don't know why I said that to him. I just had a feeling." Journalist Maureen Orth served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Colombia in the 1960's.

It's been a week since the sudden death of NBC newsman Tim Russert - a loss that has been deeply felt by his colleagues and viewers.
The longtime host of "Meet the Press" was eulogized Wednesday in Washington, D.C., at a service attended by such news stars as Tom Brokaw, Brian Williams, Katie Couric, Matt Lauer, Bryant Gumbel and California first lady Maria Shriver, one of Russert's closest friends.
Brokaw and Shriver spoke at the service along with Tim's 22-year-old son, Luke Russert, who has impressed all with his poise.
I just had a feeling."
Here is a very touching detail involving Tim's last day of life: That morning, he took some time off from work to go to his son's new Washington, D.C., apartment to wait for the cable man.
"He could have hired someone to do it, but that wasn't Tim," Betsy Fischer, producer of "Meet the Press" told People. "When it came to Luke, there was no detail too small."

| Dodd vows to filibuster Surveillance Act Senator Chris Dodd vowed to filibuster the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act that would grant retroactive immunity to telecommunications companies that helped this administration violate the civil liberties of Americans. "It is time to say: No more. No more trampling on our Constitution. No more excusing those who violate the rule of law. These are fundamental, basic, eternal principles. They have been around, some of them, for as long as the Magna Carta. They are enduring. What they are not is temporary. And what we do not do in a time where our country is at risk is abandon them." |
