After collecting my mustering out pay I made my way to Paris for short stint at
La Sorbonne to improve my language skills. An offer to join Peace Corps staff
was eagerly accepted which included tours of duty in the Carribbean and as
Country Director for Senegal. After twelve years of service a call came in the
night from a Canadian friend offering a career change and a chance to
experience another part of the world. In 1975 I joined Lavalin International, a
Canadian engineering firm from Montreal. I packed up my wife and two
children and set up shop in Manila, then Singapore, then Jakarta, then New
Delhi and finally Bangkok (1989). I came to Bangkok for three months to help
negotiate a contract for a mass transit system (SkyTrain), somehow the
Canadian version never made it here, but there is still hope.


Presently I am the Regional Director for Thailand, Philippines and Indochina for
Bombardier Total Transportation Systems Division, which is responsible for
development, design and supply of complete transportation systems.

lived in Hermosa Beach CA, two years flying helicopters in the South Pacific, three plus years flying in West Africa on a WHO project(treating rivers on a river blindness control program), and last winter on Bioko island flying and managing a similar WHO project.

Now in Tupelo, MS. Down, but not out.

After Peace Corps, I stayed in Gabon for another 7 years, teaching in different schools. I did my master's in education in South Africa in the summers, and I moved back to the US this last August to teach junior high math here. I had a daughter Tisha in 1997.

I think that Peace Corps was great, but I learned more about the country by staying there even longer.

After Gabon, I served in Crisis Corps with the IRC in Guinea, then a masters in non-profit management, and have been managing for a medical relief organization (Merlin) in DRC, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Afghanistan, and now in Central Asia.

Sometimes I wish I hadn't served, it might have made life easier -- not knowing. Most times, I am thankful for the day I had the idea.
