Peace Corps director makes acquaintance of Ukraine

Aug 8, 2003 11:16

(AP) The director of the U.S. Peace Corps, Gaddi Vasquez, arrived in Ukraine Aug. 7 for a three-day visit to meet Ukrainian officials, Peace Corps staff and volunteers.

Vasquez is to visit Peace Corps volunteers at their project sites, according to the U.S. Embassy.

With 233 volunteers currently serving in the country, Ukraine is the largest Peace Corps post worldwide.
Since 1992, about 1,000 U.S. citizens have worked as Peace Corps volunteers in the former Soviet republic in business development, English education and environmental protection, performing their two-year tours of duty.
