(AP) The director of the U.S. Peace Corps, Gaddi Vasquez, arrived in Ukraine Aug. 7 for a three-day visit to meet Ukrainian officials, Peace Corps staff and volunteers.
Vasquez is to visit Peace Corps volunteers at their project sites, according to the U.S. Embassy.
With 233 volunteers currently serving in the country, Ukraine is the largest Peace Corps post worldwide. Since 1992, about 1,000 U.S. citizens have worked as Peace Corps volunteers in the former Soviet republic in business development, English education and environmental protection, performing their two-year tours of duty.
Minnesota Sen. Coleman Minnesota RPCVs should call Senator Norm Coleman and ask him to introduce an amendment to the Senate Foreign Operations Bill for President Bush's full $359M Peace Corps approriation. RPCVs from other states should call their Senators and ask them to support the amendment.
