Obituary for Chad RPCV Evelyn E. Sinclair
Mrs. Sinclair began her career with the Library of Congress as a secretary in the office of the assistant librarian for the American Revolution bicentennial. Within two years, she was promoted to a writer, editor and indexer. From 1979 to 1983, she served as an associate editor of the Library of Congress's old Quarterly Journal, editing articles about the library's collections. She helped edit and index many books published by the Library of Congress and co-wrote "Women of the Suffrage Movement" (2006) with Janice E. Ruth. Evelyn Marie Eiwen, a native Washingtonian, was a 1964 graduate of Yorktown High School in Arlington County. She received a bachelor's degree in sociology from the University of Delaware in Newark in 1961 and a master's degree in American studies from the University of Michigan in 1971. From 1968 to 1970, she served in the Peace Corps in Chad.

Evelyn E. Sinclair, 63, who had been a writer and editor in the Library of Congress's publishing office since 1974, died Aug. 25 at George Washington University Hospital of a pulmonary embolism.
Mrs. Sinclair began her career with the Library of Congress as a secretary in the office of the assistant librarian for the American Revolution bicentennial. Within two years, she was promoted to a writer, editor and indexer. From 1979 to 1983, she served as an associate editor of the Library of Congress's old Quarterly Journal, editing articles about the library's collections.
She helped edit and index many books published by the Library of Congress and co-wrote "Women of the Suffrage Movement" (2006) with Janice E. Ruth.
Evelyn Marie Eiwen, a native Washingtonian, was a 1964 graduate of Yorktown High School in Arlington County. She received a bachelor's degree in sociology from the University of Delaware in Newark in 1961 and a master's degree in American studies from the University of Michigan in 1971. From 1968 to 1970, she served in the Peace Corps in Chad.

She had been a Capitol Hill resident since 1972 and a member of the District's St. Mark's Episcopal Church, where she taught Sunday school and served on the Altar Guild.
Survivors include her husband of 32 years, Stephen Sinclair of Washington; two children, Amanda Sinclair of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Peter Sinclair of San Diego; her mother, Harriet Eiwen of Arlington; a brother; and a sister.
