Around the World in a Day... in Houston, Texas!

The National Peace Corps Association is partnering with the Southwest Regional Recruitment Office and the Gulf Coast RPCVs to present '"Around the World in a Day." This event is designed to connect Peace Corps Champions and Returned Peace Corps Volunteers to the local and National groups as well as to inform the Southwest Region about Peace Corps Opportunities. There are two ways that you can participate in this event!

Understanding and Educating about Peace Corps

United Way of The Texas Gulf Coast, Community Resource Center

50 Waugh Drive, Houston, TX 77007

April 6, 3:00 - 5:00 pm

This workshop is geared for Career Center Professionals, Peace Corps Champions, and Returned Peace Corps Volunteers (RPCVs). There will be a brief overview of current Peace Corps needs and requirements to be a strong candidate for service. We will then offer two breakout groups. One will be for Career Center Professionals and Peace Corps Campus Champions; they will be able to gain academic specific information in order to better advise their students on opportunities with the Peace Corps. The second is geared for RPCVs who have helped and/or would like to help with Houston area recruitment events. We will provide talking points, current statistics, and best practices for not only recruitment events but community presentations. It will better prepare RPCVs for achieving that third goal of bringing your experience back home.

If you are interested in attending this workshop, please reserve a seat at RSVP@peacecorps.gov or 214-253-5472. Please include your years and country of service.

Around the World in a Day

United Way of The Texas Gulf Coast, Community Resource Center

50 Waugh Drive, Houston, TX 77007

April 6, 5:30 - 8:00 pm

Join NPCA and PC Directors, PC Program Representatives, and members of the Southwest Regional Recruitment Office in this evening reception. We are hoping to have 150-200 guests at this event! There will be a brief formal program with words from NPCA and Peace Corps, formal recognition of top volunteer producers Rice University and the University of Houston, and a chance for interested persons to mix and mingle with RPCVs. We have a theme of "Around the World," focusing on the regions of Peace Corps programs. We would like RPCVs to bring pictures and memorabilia from their country of service for the tables. We would love for you to wear traditional dress if possible and, most importantly, be prepared to talk about your country and service. For this event we will group countries into Regions as follows:

1. Central America, South America, and the Caribbean

2. Africa

3. Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and Middle East

4. Asia and the Pacific

We would like to have at least 2-3 Volunteers per Region. Of course, the more, the merrier! If you are interested in participating in this event, please contact Gulf Coast Council of Returned Peace Corps Volunteers President Ruth Grubesic at ruthie16@msn.com.

If you are just interested in attending the reception, please reserve a seat at RSVP@peacecorps.gov or 214-253-5472. Please include your years and country of service.

Thank you in advance for helping make this event a success!
