Years of Service: 1980-83

Cities you served in: Served in Mbiaki 2 years and Bangui a third year.

Training Group Name: PCV training was in
Lome Togo in May of 1980

Departure Date from CAR was November of
1983 I was a Health Volunteer - Training Primary school teachers in how
to teach health in the primary schools. Served as X-cultural training
instructor for new PCV trainees after my three years of service. This
training took place in Bouka. I loved my Peace Corps Experience and I am
very proud of the fact that I was a PCV. After my service as a PCV I went
on to spend another 13 years living and working overseas with various
NGP's including CARE, UNICEF, Project HOPE, WHO, PAHO, etc. in Haiti,
Grenada, Burundi, Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago.

Bring us up to date on your life after the peace corps:

Returned to the USA in October of 1986. Re-adjustment to the USA has
been challenging to say the least. I along with some friends I made here
in SW Florida have formed a RPCV group but we are more social than
anything at this point. I need contact with other people who have orked
overseas in order to know I alone am not a bit different shall we say.
Presently I work for Collier County Housing Authority as their Social
Services and Family Self Sufficiency Coordinator. Much of my work
invovles working with migrant farmworkers from Central America and
Haiti. I feel real comfortable in this postion. It is like working overseas. I
would loved to return to some kind of overseas work however at this time
I have an 11 year old daughter and a nine year old son both of which I am
raising by myself. I am hopeful they will join me in my love for working
overseas. I hope they too will join the ranks of PCV's.

Anything else you would like people to know about your peace corps service:

I wish it were mandatory that everyone young American, fresh out of high
school, could spend a year or so working in a developing country. As
Americans we have so much to learn from indivudals of other cultures. In
so doing, it would be my hope that young people would become a bit more
humble in their very existance and put less an emphasis on material
goods and more of an emphasis on appreciating and developing good
human relationships on all levels.
