Accused coach's trial is postponed
A judge has postponed to May 9 the trial of a youth soccer coach accused of attacking a referee last year.
Mauricio Alvarez said outside an Alameda County Superior courtroom Monday he has been unable to hire an attorney since parting ways with his former defender, Angela Greene, by mutual consent earlier this month.
Alvarez is accused of punching and kicking Bruce Greenlee during a Nov. 20 match in Albany after Greenlee disqualified Alvarez's team for lacking credentials for all its players.
He is charged with two counts of misdemeanor battery; each carries a maximum penalty of a year in jail and a $2,000 fine.
Greenlee has identified Alvarez as his attacker. Alvarez said he is innocent and that someone else attacked Greenlee.

Friends of the Peace Corps 170,000 strong
170,000 is a very special number for the RPCV community - it's the number of Volunteers who have served in the Peace Corps since 1961. It's also a number that is very special to us because March is the first month since our founding in January, 2001 that our readership has exceeded 170,000. And while we know that not everyone who comes to this site is an RPCV, they are all "Friends of the Peace Corps." Thanks everybody for making PCOL your source of news for the Returned Volunteer community.
