International documentaries coming
Thursday, April 21, 2005
Belmont World Film will present its first annual International Documentary Weekend from April 30 through May 2 at the Studio Cinema, 376 Trapelo Road in Belmont. The series is partially funded by Grants for Peace, a nonprofit organization that encourages interpersonal, intercultural and international learning and tolerance.
Although each film is about a different part of the world, they share a common theme: people who have taken a unique initiative in contributing to the lives of others.
[Excerpt]
The film schedule is:
Saturday, April 30, 4 p.m. - Jimi Sir: An American Peace Corps Volunteer in Nepal (USA)
An original and intimate portrait of Peace Corps volunteer James Parks' experiences as a high school science, math and English teacher during the last 10 weeks of his service in a tiny hill town still untouched by modern civilization at the foot of Nepal's Himalayas.
Following the film will be a discussion with filmmaker Claude von Roesgen, a Carlisle resident who was a student of cinema verite pioneer Richard Leacock.

| Friends of the Peace Corps 170,000 strong 170,000 is a very special number for the RPCV community - it's the number of Volunteers who have served in the Peace Corps since 1961. It's also a number that is very special to us because March is the first month since our founding in January, 2001 that our readership has exceeded 170,000. And while we know that not everyone who comes to this site is an RPCV, they are all "Friends of the Peace Corps." Thanks everybody for making PCOL your source of news for the Returned Volunteer community. |
