(August 2, 2005)--The UTSA Institute for Economic Development (IED) has named Mark A. Hager director of its newly established Center for Community and Business Research.
The center will seek funding from foundations, government and business to conduct research on community and business development. This research will guide IED’s public service activities. Hager’s responsibilities as director include the development of evaluation, assessment, and community research projects, and directing the design and implementation of the institute’s research program.
“Establishment of a Center for Community and Business Research is an important part of our plan to understand the dynamics of economic development in South Texas and the Border Region,” said Robert McKinley, UTSA Associate Vice President and Director of the Institute for Economic Development.
Hager brings 10 years of leadership in the study of community organizations, voluntarism, and philanthropy. Prior to joining IED, he was a senior research associate at the Urban Institute, a social policy think tank in Washington, D.C.
“Dr. Hager is an excellent choice to develop this new center and its research program,” said McKinley.
“Rural community economic development was my first area of study as an undergraduate student in Kansas,” noted Hager. “That work led me to the Peace corps, then to a specialization in nonprofits. I am pleased to be able to return to my community development roots as the director of this new center.”
For more information on the new center, contact Hager at (210) 458-2478.

| Military Option sparks concerns The U.S. military, struggling to fill its voluntary ranks, is allowing recruits to meet part of their military obligations by serving in the Peace Corps. | Friends of the Peace Corps 170,000 strong 170,000 is a very special number for the RPCV community - it's the number of Volunteers who have served in the Peace Corps since 1961. It's also a number that is very special to us because March is the first month since our founding in January, 2001 that our readership has exceeded 170,000. And while we know that not everyone who comes to this site is an RPCV, they are all "Friends of the Peace Corps." Thanks everybody for making PCOL your source of news for the Returned Volunteer community. |
