William M. Berry, 73, of West Wardsboro, died Saturday, March 26, 2005, in Grace Cottage Hospital.
He was born on April 18, 1931 in Richmond, N.Y., the son of Finley and May [Biavati] Berry.
Mr. Berry received his early education in the New York school system and later graduated from Hofstra University in Long Island, N.Y. With a friend, he co-founded the BraBerry Machine Parts Company and worked there for many years before his retirement,
He served his country during the Korean War as a submariner the Navy.
Mr. Berry was a member of the Peace Corps for several years and worked in Poland. He was also founder of the West River Habitat for Humanity and an avid contributor to the Salvation Army, Grace Cottage Hospital and Vermont Public Radio.
He was married to Barbara Hughes who predeceased him.
He always had a love for Vermont and lived in the house that he built with friends and professionals in the 1960s.
Mr. Berry is survived by two cousins, Bruce and Marion Biavati; and his lifelong friend, Ed Molitor of West Dover.
A service will be held at the White Funeral Home in Townshend on Tuesday at 6 p.m. Calling hours will be today and Tuesday from 3-6 p.m. in the funeral home.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Grace Cottage Foundation, P.O. Box 1, Townshend, VT, 05353.
Arrangements are under the care of WHITE FUNERAL HOME and Cremation Services in Townshend.

After the Tsunami in Southeast Asia last December, Peace Corps issued an appeal for Crisis Corps Volunteers and over 200 RPCVs responded. The first team of 8 Crisis Corps volunteers departed for Thailand on March 18 to join RPCVs who are already supporting relief efforts in Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, and India with other agencies and NGO's. |

RPCVs Sam Farr, Chris Shays, Thomas Petri, James Walsh, and Mike Honda have asked their colleagues in Congress to add their names to a letter they have written to the House Foreign Operations Subcommittee, asking for full funding of $345 M for the Peace Corps in 2006. As a follow-on to Peace Corps week, please read the letter and call your Representative in Congress and ask him or her to add their name to the letter. |
