New volunteers arrived in August after which they began a ten week pre-service training program that included cultural training, language instruction, and technical training to prepare them for their assignments.

NEW PEACE CORPS VOLUNTEERS TO BE SWORN IN
October 27, 2008
The United States Peace Corps will be swearing in 36 new volunteers on Wednesday on the grounds of the Governor General’s residence. The new Peace Corps volunteers will be working in four program areas; Business and Organizational Management, Education, Healthy Communities, and Youth Development. Training Director Alissa Bellot tells us more.

“Six volunteers will be serving in business and organizational management and they are located here in Belmopan at BEST. They will also be going to Orange Walk at DAVCO and the Sugar Cane Farmers Association. Three volunteering will be going to the Toledo District in Blue Creek. There will also be 12 education volunteers swearing in, they will be working as teacher trainers mainly in Orange Walk and Corozal and some here in Belize. We also have 11 volunteers who will be working in health education and water and sanitation swearing in. They will be placed in the Stann Creek and Toledo Districts. There will also be 11 youth development volunteers who will be working in Belize City at High Schools and with 4H. They will also be working with Equity Health in Hopkins; they are also working at the Mental Health in San Ignacio and in George Town with the George Town Youth Group.” Bellot said that the new volunteers arrived in August after which they began a ten week pre-service training program that included cultural training, language instruction, and technical training to prepare them for their assignments.

“They are from throughout the United States; they are all American Citizens. We have volunteers form; Texas, Arizona, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Florida, New York, Pretty much every state in the Union. We are very excited for these volunteers who will be joining 30 volunteers who are already working throughout Belize. Belize has enjoyed a long friendship with Peace Corps and we appreciate the people of Belize inviting us and working with us to develop the country of Belize.”
The new volunteers will serve in their assigned communities for two years.
