Changes for Congressman Walsh?

It is inevitable. With the new year comes changes. One of those changes could be the job description of Congressman Jim Walsh.
Currently, he serves on the Appropriations Committee as chairman of the VA, HUD, and Independent Agencies sub committee. But his six year term is now up.
He has asked for a waiver for another two years to remain in his position. If that waiver is denied, Walsh could end up on another subcommittee which includes labor, health and human services. They deal with education and healthcare, transportation, or energy and water. No matter what ends up happening, Walsh says he's prepared.
"The tools in my kit. The VA, veterans, HUD, NASA, EPA, the National Science Foundation. All can be brought to bare my community, state and my nation. But I make those decisions pretty much with my staff. So that will change. The good news is I will still be a chairman on a sub committee, on Appropriations, be a senior member of the committee in the majority able to make decisions. So will still have a pretty substantial impact," he said.
The new Appropriations committee chairman will be named on January 5th. Three weeks from then, the chairman will decide on Walsh's waiver request.

 | Is Gaddi Leaving? Rumors are swirling that Peace Corps Director Vasquez may be leaving the administration. We think Director Vasquez has been doing a good job and if he decides to stay to the end of the administration, he could possibly have the same sort of impact as a Loret Ruppe Miller. If Vasquez has decided to leave, then Bob Taft, Peter McPherson, Chris Shays, or Jody Olsen would be good candidates to run the agency. Latest: For the record, Peace Corps has no comment on the rumors. |
